How to Get Your Car Ready for a Mobile Detail (It's Less Than You Think)

First-time mobile detailing customers often ask what they need to do before we arrive. The honest answer: not much. But a few small things make the difference between a good detail and a great one, so here's the short list, plus the things people do that they really don't need to.
The five-minute prep that helps
Worth doing before any appointment:
- Clear out personal items. Sunglasses, chargers, paperwork, the gym bag. We work around belongings carefully, but every item we move is a minute not spent cleaning.
- Pop out the car seats if you can. The floor under a car seat is consistently the dirtiest square foot of any family vehicle, and we can only deep-clean it if we can reach it.
- Make parking room. We need space for the van next to (or right behind) your vehicle, plus a few feet around the car to work. A standard driveway is plenty.
- Flag anything special. Leather quirks, a stain's origin story, trim you're worried about, a gate code. Thirty seconds of context prevents guesswork.
- Leave a key arrangement if you won't be home. Lockbox, hidden key, a neighbor, whatever works. You don't need to be there.
Things you can skip
People regularly apologize to us for things that need no apology:
- Don't pre-clean the car. Washing before the detailer arrives is like brushing your teeth before the dentist: appreciated, unnecessary, and you paid for us to do it.
- Don't empty the trunk unless you want it detailed. Just tell us either way.
- Don't stress about the mess. There is nothing in your cupholders we haven't seen worse than. Truly.
- Don't supply water or power. A proper mobile rig brings its own. If your detailer asks for your hose, ask them some questions.
During and after
During the job, we're self-sufficient. You can work, run errands, or watch from the window with coffee (a respected tradition). Afterward, give shampooed carpets a few hours of cracked windows or airflow to finish drying, especially in humid weather. That's it. That's the whole aftercare regimen.
