Interior vs. Exterior Detail: Which One Does Your Car Actually Need?

The most common question we get after price is some version of "what should I actually book?", usually followed by "just be honest with me." Deal. Here's the same decision guide we walk through on the phone, minus the phone.
Book an interior detail if...
The interior is where life happens, and it shows first. You want the inside done when:
- There's a smell you've stopped noticing but your passengers haven't.
- The carpets or seats have visible stains, or the floor mats have become geology.
- Kids or pets ride regularly. Crumbs and hair compound weekly.
- You're seeing film on the inside of your windshield (that's off-gassed plastic, and it gets worse in Oklahoma heat).
- You just bought a used car. You do not want to marinate in the previous owner's decisions.
Book an exterior detail if...
Paint problems are cheaper to prevent than correct. The outside is due when:
- Bug splatter, tar, or bird droppings have been on the paint more than a week or two. All three etch clear coat as they bake.
- The car feels rough when you run a hand over a clean panel (that's bonded contamination, not dirt).
- Wheels are browning from brake dust. It's corrosive, and it pits the finish over time.
- You're selling. Listing photos of a freshly detailed exterior measurably change what people offer.
When the combo genuinely wins
We'd sell more combos by saying "always," but the honest answer is: the combo wins when both sides are overdue, when you're prepping a car for sale, or when it's been more than six months since anything was done. It's also just better value per hour of work: one trip, one setup, everything done.
If only one side of the car is suffering, book that side. A detailer who pushes the big package on a car that doesn't need it is telling you how the rest of the job will go.
The Oklahoma factor
Our climate stacks the deck in specific ways: red dirt works into carpets year-round, spring pollen and summer bugs attack paint on a schedule, and hail season means you want a clean surface so insurance photos are unambiguous. If you keep one rhythm, make it this one: exterior attention in spring and fall, interior at least twice a year, and a combo whenever the car changes owners.
